Kuni Juu - that's Swahili for wood top
Feeling triumphant! We had the wood spun for these lamps one year ago and have been experimenting with different glaze colors and wooden top finishes since then. After months of agonizing over the color selection and combination we came to a resolution.
For the speckled stoneware base we chose a solid wash of seven transparent glossy colors that fuse with the speckled stoneware clay, and one solid color that completely hides the clay - metallic black.
To accent the base we left the alder top natural. We hand rub a protective oil onto the surface to seal the wood without altering it's beauty. Paired with white linen shades the lamps are just what we envisioned when we started this project: a modern lamp that we find a true pleasure to have on our desktop.
