J SCHATZ INTRODUCES NEW TABLEWARE FOR 2017

PROVIDENCE, RI — J Schatz is pleased to introduce you to four new tableware collections for 2017. The collections presented here are the culmination of a process that started over year ago in Los Angeles.

One of our last big projects before leaving California for Rhode Island in January of 2017 was to design a new collection of tableware in collaboration with chef Tony Esnault of Church & State for his new french restaurant Spring located in downtown Los Angeles. We handmade and delivered 1,000 pieces to the restaurant and then left town for Providence.

After setting up our new studio we created variations of the tableware we created for Spring and made additions to it. The culmination of which is our new 2017 Tableware line which consists of four collections: JS 158 & JS 159 are porcelain and stoneware variations of the Spring Collection, JS 160 is a Slab-Built Porcelain Collection, and JS 161 is a customized wedding plate. We hope you are as inspired by the collections as we are.

JS 158 Stoneware and Porcelain Tableware
We decided to make the plates in the JS 158 Tableware Collection from a bright white stoneware clay body and the bowls and vessels from a bright white translucent porcelain clay body. We designed the plates with generous flat areas to show off your food. Bowls are created to be light, yet durable; platters and plates have a much heavier presence. It’s a yin/yang pairing that will surprise and delight you and your guests. Available in eight styles: Arctic Blue Temmoku, Aurora Borealis, Bright White, Cosmos, Deep Sienna Speckle, Ocean Floor, Platinum Sketch, and Watercolor. Four piece place setting retail price is $245-$275 and contains a 12 1/2" Dinner Platter, 10 3/4" Appetizer Plate, 5 1/2" Bread & Bread Plate, and a 9 3/4" Salad Bowl. Additional pieces include a translucent porcelain 11 1/2" Soup Bowl, Water Vessel, and Sauce Vessel.

JS 159 Speckled Stoneware Tableware
We used the same design for this collection as the JS 158 Collection but created it from a speckled stoneware clay body. Available in five colors: Harvest Yellow, Light Aqua, Metallic Black, Sumac Red, and White. Four piece place setting retail price is $245 and contains a 12 1/2" Dinner Platter, 10 3/4" Appetizer Plate, 5 1/2" Bread & Bread Plate, and a 9 3/4" Salad Bowl. Additional pieces include a translucent porcelain 11 1/2" Soup Bowl, Water Vessel, and Sauce Vessel.

JS 160 Slab-Built Tableware
We decided to make the plates in this collection on the slab table from a warm white porcelain clay. We roll the clay out on the slab table and then carefully cut and form each plate by hand. It is a process that yields an organic round shape. The bowls and vessels are caste from a bright white translucent porcelain clay body. We created the pieces in our collection to be light, yet durable and apply a gold edge that highlights the organic edges of each piece.  Available in two styles: Gold and Silver. Four piece place setting retail price is $300 and contains a 12 3/4“ Dinner Platter, 11 1/4" Appetizer Plate, 9" Dessert Plate, and a 9 3/4" Salad Bowl. Additional pieces include a translucent porcelain 11 1/2" Soup Bowl, Water Vessel, and Sauce Vessel.

JS 161 Wedding Plates
Designed with a sunrise motif on the backside, these porcelain slab built plates are customized with the initials of the people being married. They are the perfect dessert plate for that first piece of cake. We roll the clay out on the slab table and then carefully cut and form each plate by hand, carving the sunrise motif onto the backside. It is a process that yields an organic round shape. After bisque and glaze firing we line the edge in gold and include the initials of the married couple. Retail price is $180 for two 9” slab-built customized wedding plates.
