J SCHATZ INTRODUCES ONE OF A KIND COLLECTION
LOS ANGELES, CA — One of A Kind items are special to us. They are free-form, fun, and break up the production work we have in the studio. The first three items we are releasing are the Dirty Rainbow Mobile, a pair of Brutal Table Lamps, and a 3 Knob Hanging Planter. The mobile was cut on the slab table from an earthy red stoneware clay body. We made the planter and lamps using our speckled stoneware slip and added attachments during the leather hard state. All one of a kind items are original works of art that are hand signed.
Dirty Rainbow Mobile
Built on the slab table using a red clay body, this rainbow was cut and glazed with a subdued color palette: walnut brown, white, plum, orange, and pink.
Brutal Table Lamp Pair
This pair of Brutal Table Lamps is created by attaching our formation shapes to the lamp body surface when the clay is leather-hard. The attachments are fragile until fired. To keep the lamp from breaking we don't clean up the lamps before firing. We leave the slip marks and casting lines intact. The surface is wonderfully rough. The lamps are glazed in a transparent white that allows the speckled stoneware body to shine through the surface. Complete with white linen shades, you are going to love these lamps.
3 Knob Hanging Planter
We create this bullet shaped hanging planter by attaching three different knobs to the planter form when the planter is just removed from the mold. During the firing cycle the bond is made permanent. The planter is glazed transparent white and allows the speckled stoneware clay body to shine through the surface. A piece of jute is then secured to each knob to suspend the planter.
