J SCHATZ MOVES INTO A HISTORIC MILL BUILDING IN PROVIDENCE

LOS ANGELES, CA — J Schatz, the internationally recognized design and ceramic production studio, has purchased a historic mill building in the Olneyville section of Providence, Rhode Island for their new studio and home. Built in 1880, the building was the former dye house for the Weybosset Mills and is on the national register of historic places. The 5,000 sq. ft, one-and-one-half-story, sixteen-by-two-bay rectangular building has windows on both sides that allow natural light into the building throughout the day. It will be an inspiring workspace for the new studio team.

Providence Rising
Providence has a supportive and close-knit design community that is experiencing a renaissance. Mill buildings throughout town are being converted into working artists spaces. The Providence Department of Planning and Development has created the Dike Street Special Area Plan, where our building is located, to foster development, make public realm improvements, and encourage the adaptive reuse of the area’s endangered historic buildings.

J Schatz is very excited about their new home and the possibilities that await them in Providence. They are grateful to the mayor, Jorge Elorza, who has a special envoy, Barry Sullivan, that has been on the ground with them from day one making sure that their move proceeds smoothly.

Now Hiring
J Schatz is now hiring and training studio assistants in all aspects of their design and manufacturing process. J Schatz will begin manufacturing and shipping their product line from Providence by the end of January.
