Ribbon Vessels
BY JIM SCHATZ
Flat, slab-built stoneware vessels, each drawn across its face with a raised ribbon of clay. The ribbon loops, folds and doubles back on itself, glazed to stand apart from the field it encloses: red over brown, gunmetal, bronze washed with green, rust edged in pale blue.
Every silhouette is different — a doubled crown, a figure on a foot, a lowercase d. Four are available, each one of a kind, finished by hand in Detroit.
