Take Me Home: The First Exhibition

Radical Presence
Exhibition Opening at Take Me Home

March 25, 2026 | 5–8 PM
During the 60th Annual NCECA Conference, Volumes

There are moments when making feels bigger than the object itself. This is one of them. As we prepare for NCECA in Detroit, we find ourselves reflecting on why we do this work at all — shaping clay by hand, building spaces for gathering, placing objects into the world that we hope will be lived with and loved. Radical Presence grows directly from that feeling: that handmade work still matters, that material carries memory, and that Detroit is a place where new chapters take root.

We are honored to present Radical Presence at Take Me Home — the gallery arm of J Schatz Studio located within the Cadillac Arts Center

The Exhibition

Radical Presence explores form, material dialogue, and embodied making — work rooted in clay and shaped by decades of studio practice. Sculptural lighting, ceramic objects, and new works created for NCECA will be presented in a setting that blurs the gallery and domestic interior — a space conceived as both an exhibition platform and a living interior.

Courtyard Installation at The Shepherd

In conjunction with the exhibition, the courtyard of The Shepherd will host a seasonal installation of twelve Egg Bird Houses in metallic, bronze, and graphite finishes.

Installed as a constellation across the grounds, these sculptural nesting forms activate the landscape at the precise moment birds begin seeking shelter for spring. Ceramic becomes habitat. Sculpture becomes sanctuary. High-fired stoneware, glazed in molten metallic surfaces, each house reflects light differently — bronze catching the dusk, graphite absorbing shadow, metallic finishes glowing against brick and sky.

Join Us

Take Me Home was conceived as a living extension of J Schatz Studio — a place for collectible design, permanence, and presence. During NCECA, that vision extends beyond our walls and into the courtyard landscape.
