Why We Chose Detroit
After a recent studio visit, a longtime client gently asked us why we left Maine. The question lingered. It made us realize that while we’ve answered it in conversation many times, we’ve never truly shared it publicly.
When people hear we left Maine for Detroit, they sometimes respond with sympathy — as if we traded beauty for something lesser.
But we didn’t leave because something was missing.
We left because something was calling.
Maine gave us stillness. New Haven was a brief transitional chapter. Detroit gives us movement.
We love living in a high-rise downtown — sky, river, lights, the hum of the city below. We love working in our studio, a former library now filled with clay, glaze, and possibility. And we are beyond excited to open our store, Take Me Home, in the burgeoning, expanding, and culturally vital Little Village Detroit — where important arts energy is building in real time.
We wanted rhythm. Diversity. Momentum. A city shaped by artists lifting themselves up and transforming space into culture.
Detroit asks you to participate. To show up fully. To build.
We didn’t leave something beautiful.
We moved toward something alive — and we are exactly where we’re meant to be.
And next month, we hope you’ll celebrate with us at the opening of Take Me Home — a new chapter rooted in this city we love.
Take Me Home is opening March 24th at the Cadillac Arts Centre in Little Village.
